My Savvy

In the news this week… This week Sir Paul McCartney managed to break into the tabloid media for doing something green-friendly opposed to being attacked by a green-eyed monster (otherwise known as his ex-wife Heather Mills).

Surprisingly, considering what he has recently been through in the divorce courts, it would seem the worlds knight in shining armour and staunch vegetarian McCartney, holds nothing against mad cows (as long as they are not the of the human variety) and has unlike so many others has no intention of sending them to the butcher! Bless.
In breaking news this week and as the world celebrates Earth Day, the singer who once firmly believed that all you need is love, has taken back his stance on what the world needs and talked exclusively to PETA about his revisions. No longer does McCartney feel that all the world needs is love. OH NO, he now feels the world needs a completely new vegan menu.
He wants to “fight climate change with dietary change.” That is, we are all, in his opinion, best to become vegetarians.
No more bringing home the bacon for McCartney or anyone else if he has it his way; there will be absolutely no more pork on your fork!
In an exclusive interview with PETA, Sir Paul McCartney had a lot to say about why eating meat “is the worst thing you can do for the environment.”
Savvy finds this turn-about very interesting, as many would perceive ‘greenies’ as mad at cows… apparently their farting does not do the Ozone Layer any favours, yet then other times they can do know wrong. For this reason you can’t blame the average punter for thinking that eating Buttercup and co is actually saving the world from toxic gases (literally).
However, when it comes to cows: “Love, love me do,” does McCartney.
“If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That’s the single most important thing you could do. It’s staggering when you think about it. Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot,” said McCartney in an interview last year.
This week he then backed up that statement with this follow-up rant, just in case you didn’t hear him…
“I think the biggest change anyone could make in their own lifestyle would be to become vegetarian. Although this may seem to some like an unusual answer, the Global Meat Industry and the land and water required to service it is one of the major contributors to Global Warming. This surprising fact has emerged in research over the past few years. So I would urge everyone to think about taking this simple step to help our precious environment and save it for the children of the future,” he said.
When asked by the interviewer to quote “what he thinks about the fact that most major environmental organisations and the most prominent environmental advocates are omitting vegetarianism from their list of the top ways to help curtail global warming, McCartney did not give much meat in his response.
“I think it's very surprising that most major environmental organisations are leaving the option of going vegetarian off their lists of top ways to curtail global warming. Of course there are many powerful businesses which would wish to resist this idea but it is becoming clearer that a simple change in people’s lifestyles could make a major difference to our environment.”
Just what those reasons are we might never, actually be sure.
And just in case you think there is something fishy about his whole ‘turning the whole world into vegetarians to save the world’ philosophy, McCartney would like to inform you that you’re wrong.
“Unfortunately many people seem to think that vegetarians eat fish but this is not so. When you consider the over-fishing, the marine pollution and the huge damage to our precious oceans that are caused by commercial fishing it becomes obvious that a vegetarian lifestyle would greatly improve our environment and help to save our oceans,”.
Yesterday, all our troubles seemed so far away, but now we need a place to hide away, oh, I believed in yesterday.
Next week: Why we should all live in a yellow submarine.
