Ah, well, we actually do allow HTML anchor tags in the blog posts, so if people surround the link in an anchor tag, it will work as expected. I think people are just typing the link in the blog post you see...
So, you'd type something like this if you wanted to link off to digg.com or something:
<a href="http://www.digg.com" target="_new_window">see my post on digg</a>

I posted a blog on this (ironic, perhaps) but, effectively it appears that there was some difference of opinion between how I thought the quick blog function would be used and how you guys wanted to use it.
The quick blog function was not allowing links or images to be embedded, whereas the create blog function was.
This has now been changed so that both methods of creating a blog (via quick blog or create blog) work the same. Links are allowed and embedded images are too, as well as a number of other HTML tags.
