Despite its naughty-sounding name, Trashy Lingerie has been bringing beauty and glamour to Hollywood for more than three decades.

When you walk into the member’s-only showroom on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, two things immediately catch your attention: 1) the wide and colourful assortment of designs, all of which are drop-dead sexy, and 2) the photos showcasing the celebrity clientele list.

Yes, Trashy has dressed the likes of Angelina Jolie, Paris Hilton, Carmen Electra, Claudia Schiffer, Anna Nicole Smith, Pamela Anderson, and so many more. The outfits from Trashy have appeared in over 500 movies and hundreds of TV shows, as well as countless photo spreads in far too many major magazines to name here.

All of Trashy’s designs are originals and some have been named after the celebrity who inspired it. Take the “Dolly Corset” for instance, made famous by Dolly Parton. The “Carmen Collection” was named after the first customer to buy a piece of the collection, the beautiful Carmen Electra. Ever heard of those famous Playboy mansion parties? Guess where most of the Playmates and female celebrity guests come to get their outfits custom-made?

So what makes Trashy Lingerie so special?

Bridget Silvestri, director of public relations for Trashy, said the company manufactures all of its original designs in-house with 29 seamstresses and three designers.

“Our brand reflects a fun, sexy attitude mixed with traditional charm. To us, Trashy is classy and it will always be our fantasy to fulfill yours!” she said.

It all started in 1974 when shoe storeowner Mitch Shrier designed the store’s most popular shoe and named it “Trashy”. The shoe called to be worn with stockings, and the stockings called for garters, so Shrier started making garter belts and dying his own fabric to coordinate with the shoe, adding color to the lingerie world for the first time. Next came bra and knickers to match, hence the birth of Trashy Lingerie!

Until 1998, the store was one of Hollywood’s best kept secrets – a private members only store requiring a fee to ensure the privacy of its clientele -- but that changed with the launch of the Trashy.com website.

“This allowed customers to shop from the privacy of their computers,” she said.

Clothing collections, Halloween costumes, bikinis, shoes, and accessories fill the site, plus there’s even a bargain section where items sell for as little as $4. More things are added on a daily basis, making the idea of a catalogue impossible.

“The only way to keep up with us is by visiting the store or going online. Even now, a new collection is being designed,” Silvestri said. “Now the whole world has access to the same designs Hollywood’s most beloved super stars have.”
